Saint Margaret's School has 450 pupils aged 5 to 18, with a Sixth Form of 77 girls. Saint Margaret's is a member of the Woodard Corporation, within which education is based on firm Anglican foundations, and this is part of the integral character of the school, though members of other denominations are welcomed.
It is situated in the Heavitree district of Exeter, and works closely with Exeter School (650 boys HMC). There is a wide range of academic subjects at both GCSE and A Level, 26 A Level subjects being offered currently. Extra-curricular activities include CCF, Adventure Training, Christian Union, Drama, Duke of Edinburgh scheme and Young Enterprise.
The school gives special emphasis to Music. Every orchestral instrument is catered for, and there are 3 school Orchestras, as well as Jazz and Wind Bands, 2 Choirs and several smaller musical groups. Music Bursaries and Scholarships are available.
Academic standards are consistently high, with 100% of candidates passing 5 or more GCSE subjects at grades A-C. The majority of girls proceed to Higher Education and there is specialist careers guidance available for all pupils.
The school has a fully equipped IT centre and all girls take a 3 year RSA course including keyboard skills and the use of spreadsheets and databases.
All staff are fully qualified and there is a full-time Chaplain jointly appointed to Saint Margaret's and Exeter School. Particular importance is attached to the pastoral, as well as academic, welfare of each pupil.
The school enjoys the benefits of being situated in a busy University City. A wide range of educational visits is offered, and the school has for many years had group language exchanges with France, Germany and Spain.
The new Performing Arts Centre, with improved facilities for Music and Theatre Studies and a purpose-built performance space, opened in November 1997 and is now in use.
Saint Margaret's is a living, thriving, busy community, within which pupils are offered support and encouragement to develop their potential to the full.
